Okay controversial take: after a few weekends in both cities I'm leaning toward [Leiden](/netherlands/south-holland/leiden "10 Coffeeshops in Leiden Municipality (2026) | Cannabivo") being nicer for coffeeshop hunting — smaller, friendlier staff, less of the 'scene' that floods [Amsterdam](/netherlands/north-holland/amsterdam "192 Coffeeshops in Amsterdam (2026) | Cannabivo"). In Leiden I could walk into the shop, ask about a new batch and actually talk to the person behind the counter. Not saying Amsterdam is bad (obvious variety) but for a relaxed afternoon Leiden felt better. In Amsterdam you can feel rushed, queues, and explanations are often short because they're serving a constant flow. In Leiden staff will spend time explaining the batch, sometimes show how they stored it, recommend pairings. For a weekend where you actually want to try a few things and chat, Leiden wins.
