Quick question about coffeeshops in Amsterdam

I've been in Amsterdam a few times but never really paid attention to the ID/residency thing — planning a short trip and wonder: can tourists just walk into a coffeeshop in Amsterdam and show passport, or do some places check for local residency? I remember some cities in the Netherlands have the ingezetenencriterium, but is Amsterdam still tourist-friendly? Also, any tips on quieter times to go (weekdays vs weekends)? I might swing by the club in Amsterdam listed here but don't want surprises.

You can usually walk in with a passport in Amsterdam, most coffeeshops accept tourists. Avoid the very center around Dam on weekends if you want quiet. Early afternoons on weekdays are chill. Some towns (smaller ones) enforce residency, but Amsterdam and Rotterdam are fine.

> @Charlotte: "can tourists just walk into a coffeeshop" — ja, in Amsterdam meestal wel, maar let op posters bij de deur. Sommige plekken vragen extra ID checks als er grote evenementen zijn. Voor rust: doordeweeks middag is usually best.

Agree with the others — Amsterdam is fine for tourists. If you want a quieter, more local vibe try places slightly off the tourist loop (ask locals or the shop staff for recommendations). Evenings on weekdays can be pleasant too.
