Swaan

I swing by Swaan when I'm wandering Meppel's canals. It's on a quiet stretch that still shows the old canal warehouses and the market area's slower pace. The coffee shop has a low-key, relaxed feel; you won't get blasted by music. Locals and visitors mix here, and regulars often chat by the window. In summer the street fills with cyclists and people making quick stops; in winter it feels cozier and calmer. It's easy to pair a visit with a stroll along the water or a stop at the nearby shops in the compact centre. Not a tourist trap — more a neighbourhood spot where people hang out between errands. If you're passing through on the train, it's an easy place to drop into for a short break.
